The Lords of Great Britain approve a bill on the confiscation and seizure of cryptocurrencies

The upper house of the UK Parliament on Tuesday passed a bill on countering economic crime and increasing the level of corporate transparency. Now law enforcement agencies will be able to confiscate and freeze cryptocurrency that is under suspicion of being used in the commission of crimes.

The bill was submitted in September last year and is currently undergoing the final stage of consideration. After approval by the Lords, the law will be sent to the House of Commons and, with the support of the document by both houses and after signing by the king, the new law will enter into force.

Graham Biggar, Director General of the National Crime Agency, said earlier that for many years criminal communities inside and outside the UK have been hiding their income. Often, when hiding illegal income, attackers use cryptocurrency. The adoption of the new law will prevent such cases of concealment of criminal proceeds.
