The decentralized wireless network Helium moves to Solana blockchain

Helium is abandoning its own crypto infrastructure and migrating to the Solana blockchain in order to reduce the cost of network operation.

The network developers initiated a 24-hour process of disconnecting the decentralized Helium network in order to then restore work on Solana. It is planned that the network operation in normal mode will be resumed today, April 19.

The decision to switch to another blockchain was made in order to reduce the cost of operating the Helium network, which seeks to globally deploy a decentralized wireless infrastructure based on cryptocurrency as an incentive mechanism.

According to a post on the company’s official blog, the Helium access point network for data exchange will continue to work during the network migration process.

Earlier, operations with the HNT token took place in its own native Layer 1 network. However, technologically, the Helium infrastructure was slower and more expensive than more popular networks such as Solana or Ethereum. As part of the transition of Helium, HNT tokens will also be transferred to the Solana network.

Migration of Helium to Solana will lead to stable operation of the network and, potentially, to an increase in the audience and lower the threshold for developers to enter. It is worth noting that the decision and migration was made despite periodic failures in the work of Solana itself.
